Portraits of anti Wilders Protesters
On Saturday 22 March 2008 about 1,000 people have taken part in a demonstration in Amsterdam against Geert Wilders and his anti Islam movie Fitna. The anti Wilders demonstration* was held by anti-racism organisation Nederland Bekent Kleur (Netherlands Shows Its Colors).
The demonstration was held on Dam square, a 2 minutes walk from my home. I did not see any ordinary people among the protesters, that’s why it was a great opportunity to take some portraits.

*I received a note from one protester that he wasn’t protesting against Wilders, but against racism.
For those who are wondering where all these commentators come from: the popular Dutch blog GeenStijl.nl posted a link to these pictures. According to Wikipedia GeenStijl.nl “has been criticized for the xenophobic and extreme nature of the comments it allows readers to post. Anti-islamic and anti-immigrant comments are stimulated by the selection and the presentation of its topics, and the stereotyping in them: the number of stereotypes and ridiculizing names used for immigrants is far higher on the site than for non-immigrants. The blog aims to be a right-wing equivalent of the British tabloids, confirming the prejudice of its readers and thus provoking loads of comments”. Someone posted a link on the NCRV (Dutch Christian Radio Association) forum Stand.NL. This forum-thread received also a lot of commentaries.
